The Lower Gneiss Unit of the French Hercynian Massif Central is dominated by paragneisses, often partially molten (into the Velay complex). This outcrop is on the upper contact of the LGU, a tectonic contact with the overlying Upper Gneiss Unit (with the Leptyno-amphibolitic complex, a dismembered ophiolite, at its base);the gneisses are migmatitic and high strain.
