Impressively parallel bedded basin-plain deposits mainly consisting of resedimented pelagic and hemipelagic biogenic oozes; subordinate, fine-grained sandstone forms darker and considerably thinner, more resistent units. These sediments, which are interpreted as a trench-fill, are thought to be a classic example of stacked megaturbidites triggered by seismic activity (seismoturbidites of Mutti et al., 1984). Thin-bedded sandstones and dark mudstones represent the background sedimentationof the basin plain.
